Easter fun

Madaba, Jordan
Saturday, March 30, 2013

How many years has it been since I've decorated Easter eggs? Well, Grandma arrived from the States with a box of dye in tow, and she and A had a fine time decorating eggs. And, of course, the stickers that came with the dye were a huge hit.

Desert camp in Wadi Rum

Wadi Rum, Jordan
Friday, March 29, 2013

We spent last night and this morning at a desert camp in Wadi Rum. Fantastic scenery. Make sure you spend a night here when you come south to Petra. For a preview, you can always watch "Lawrence of Arabia"...

Petra with the Grand Ps

Petra, Jordan
Thursday, March 28, 2013

This week, at last, we made it to Petra! As the weather gets warmer, I am glad we didn't come any later in the year. It really is a fantastic place, not made any less so by the hoards of tourists from all corners of the globe--and the swarms of horse, camel, and donkey owners who are very eager to "offer" you a ride...

Jerash, Jordan
Sunday, March 24, 2013

Went back to Jerash again today--plus the grandparents and minus the daughter--who has declared that she "hates the Romans." The wind combined with a not-too-hot sun made for a lovely day...

The City of Columns

Jerash, Jordan
Friday, March 1, 2013

This morning we headed north to the Roman ruins of Jerash. The weather was cool when the clouds rolled in, but instantly warm when the sun came back. The green is everywhere now and spring flowers, too! Jerash was fantastic: Hadrian's Arch, the hippodrome, the amphitheatre, the Temples of Zeus and Artemis--and the column-lined roads. Don't miss this place. But don't come here too late in the spring--you'll fry in the direct sun!
